Let’s be honest, we all enjoy being voyeurs to a certain degree. Having the chance to become insiders to the lives of others is the way to forget about your own to-do list. Many would argue the best way to decompress after a long day is by watching mindless television. Pretty sure that’s one of the many reasons for the rise of reality tv shows. So, when you are in the zone of needing to set your mind to – ‘entertainment only’, connect with these top 10 must-see couples’ reality tv shows, in no particular order.
1. Singled Out
Back in the 90s when dating life was different, music was filled with talent, and fashion was certainly questionable, Singled Out was one of the best dating shows to watch. Hosted by Jenny McCarthy, Singled Out, was the original Love Is Blind. Singles sat on their throne with a series of questions to ask prospective candidates. It was all about the game of responding appropriately and having the voice to get the seeker to pick you for a first date! Accept the lackluster quality and get to watching Singled Out episodes on Youtube. By the way, who knew the show was remade in 2020, hosted by Keke Palmer and Joel Kim Booster.
2. Love Is Blind
Netflix’s Love Is Blind has brought us the modern-day version of Singled Out. With a similar concept, this series allows singles to get to know participants and potential partners through a wall. The only way to get to know a fellow cast member or future partner is to talk through a wall causing individuals to get creative, honest, and direct with their approach. It’s an opportunity to truly fall in love with the foundation of a person minus their looks. There have been a few couples to make it through. Lauren and Cameron and Barnett and Amber are fan favorites. Having made it through the drama – you gotta watch to see just how true this here show is. Season 2 is coming soon in September 2021.
3. Married At First Sight
Man! I don’t know about you, but I would rather be on reality shows 1 and 2 before getting Married At First Sight. The title speaks for itself. Singles come together to trust a group of experts including Sociologist, Dr. Pepper Schwartz, relationship Psychotherapist, Dr. Viviana Cole, and Pastor Cal. The three of them work together to match individuals based on wants, behavior, and personality. A decent, yet scary concept with so many unexpected outcomes, twists, and turns. The unforgettable couple, Chris and Paige represent how being ‘good on paper’ is not always fitting for real life. Attraction matters. Respect does too. Your DVR will not be disappointed with these recordings filling it up. The current season is on RIGHT NOW!
4. 90 Day Fiance
Seriously, who comes up with these concepts?! 90 Day Fiance offers an inside look into international relationships that have just 90 days while on Visa to decide whether to divorce or stay together! This is intriguing to watch as you see two people acclimate to one another’s culture, and most importantly discover if the one on Visa is interested in the person, or just the chance for a life upgrade.
5. Love Island
Imagine a picturesque place with a number of gorgeous people that are all contestants with a purpose to party and date. If you can make it to the end with your beau, you may just have a shot at a real relationship. I’m holding my breath.
6. Temptation Island
USA Network is bringing the drama for your momma! It’s the theory for me. You’re in a relationship, you go to an island together, among a ton of other fly peeps to test your relationship. Will you be tempted to cheat or is your relationship strong enough to withstand the desire to just….GOOD LUCK Y’ALL
7. Ready To Love
Brought to you by OWN Network and Executive Producer, Will Packer, Ready To Love gives me more sophisticated dating vibes. Don’t get me wrong, although it seems most of the cast is definitely interested in becoming known, the batch of peeps on this couple’s reality tv show is attractive, career-oriented, and polished. I get excited to see these black singles learn how to govern themselves to in turn have a true love connection. The next season is coming soon and is based in DC. Let’s see what happens, considering only a few of the matches have made it past the reunion.
8. Couples Therapy
Aye, do you remember this show? Couples Therapy was a celebrity-focused reality show hosted by Dr. Jenn Mann where 4 couples checked into an intense therapy retreat to get to the nitty-gritty of their issues. Dr. Jenn had a no-shame approach when she was on The Oprah Winfrey Show, and her approach on this show was no different. Joe Budden, Janice Dickenson, Flavor Flav, and even DMX were on the show. From addiction and cheating to communication and legal issues were topics tackled. It was tough to watch, but enlightening at times. You can still watch the episodes on VH1.
9. Married To Medicine
I love real couples, real conversations, and real issues. Married to Medicine is a Bravo show filmed in Atlanta following 6 couples where one partner has a career in medicine. To watch affluent, educated women in relationships experience and conquer career, parenting, and relationships is something to be admired, and ahem – watched. We all know relationships, especially marriage are not an easy feat, especially when you have a hectic profession to balance. These couples show what issues can arise, how female friendships can be extremely complicated, and how ish isn’t always perfect in life and love.
10. Catfish
Whoop whoop! This here show is one of my favorites. In its 8th season, Catfish has presented the fraudulent reality of what can occur on the internet. For starters, people have far too much time on their hands, are mostly hurting and feeling less than, so they get to the world of impersonation. The entanglement depths are real, appalling, and often times completely unpredictable – incoming Netflix series Clickbait. Catfish put a trend on blast, and the trend continued because of what I believe is a drive to see the best in situations, a decrease in confidence, and an incredible amount of open internet possibilities. Please binge-watch this here reality tv show that I had to add as a couples reality tv show, because why not? Pretty sure. most individuals are wanting to be in a quality platonic relationship. Oh, and please give a resounding round of applause for the addition of Kamie Crawford’s authenticity, coaching, literal red flags, and undeniable facial expressions. #love! The sister and brother connection between Kamie and Nev is a #wholevibe too!
We have reached the end of this countdown, with more to come! When you are looking for a combination of history and present times connect with me. I’m all about the oldies that are goodies and the newbies that are #bingeworthy because, let’s be honest, we all need a little #chill in our lives from time to time.
