One of our favorites. The ambiance is intimate and sophisticated. We had a great double date experience here. At Bavette’s, it’s all about the beef. This chophouse specializes in dry-aged, grass-fed beef that is hand-selected and cut to order. The menu also features a selection of seafood, poultry, and pork dishes, as well as a variety of sides and appetizers.

Bavette’s is the perfect place to enjoy a classic steak dinner. Start with the wedge salad, then move on to your choice of entree. We recommend the 22-ounce dry-aged bone-in ribeye, but the filet mignon and New York strip are also excellent choices. Be sure to pair your meal with a bottle of red wine from the restaurant’s extensive wine list.

If you’re not in the mood for steak, roasted chicken or seared scallops are also excellent options. And don’t forget to try one of Bavette’s signature cocktails, like the French 75 or Sazerac.

Discovering all that the Windy City has to offer will take a number of trips, a funnel of endless dollar bills, and an empty stomach ready to embark on devouring more eats and drinks. There is so much to do, so much to see, and more to experience than what meets the eye. I say, take the time to see the tourist attractions, walk the Magnificent Mile strip, then hightail your butt to the number of rooftops waiting for your special date night.

With a first date that ended after 8 hours, covered 3 locations, and started a relationship in which we now plan every vacation visit around rooftops, this my friends, is our specialty. Let’s get to the best rooftop date night ideas we love in Chicago.

1. LondonHouse Chicago

 I remember the days of long lines just to enter this place. This was the second location on the infamous 8 hour first date night. We were full enough from our Mexican meal, but we kept the drinks coming. This place has an irreplaceable view of the Chicago River with a row of buildings on each side. It is the place we saw an NBA player (I don’t remember his name) and we peered into the distance into the night. It was perfect.

2. Streeterville Social

 This place is great for a mature evening out. Nested in the best of Streeterville, you see a different angle of Chicago with a view of the NBC tower. It’s a chill vibe, lots of seating, and a grassy area for games on the appropriate evening. If you are looking for a spot for a private event, this is it.

3. IO Godfrey

True memories and magic happened here. Having eaten and drunk our way into lots of smiles, this is where Logan nervously said his first, “I love you.” We shared an unforgettable moment on a beautiful Saturday afternoon with delectable salmon and great champagne. IO Godfrey is the trendy place to enjoy an evening with great music, quality, well-dressed people, Chicago views as the backdrop, and more memories to be made.

4. Cerise Virgin Rooftop

 This was a rooftop visit that was cool, but not our absolute fave. Although a decent ambiance, the views are not necessarily stellar. From what I hear though, the nightlife party there is lit, and rightfully so considering the well-known DJs known to spin there.

5. J Parker

I cannot even count how many times we have frequented this place. A go-to location for friends and family visitors in town, J Parker is a gift made to impress. The food is great. The cocktails are phenomenal and the music will keep you on your feet. There aren’t many seats, but who needs seats when you are dancing. Just know, my mom was feeling it here and talks about it still to this day. The views of Lincoln Park and Lake Michigan are unforgettable. To see the span of greenery with the lake behind gives you the serenity to ask for 1 more cocktail!

Looking for another date night idea in Chicago – check this out!

6. Soho House Chicago Rooftop

This is a must-add because of the exclusivity. As a members-only club, if you ever have a chance to be a guest at this place, don’t miss out. The rooftop experience is one to remember. With a pool, poolside service, and food and cocktails to match the mood of options and access, it is worth finding a friend that is a member; just to say, “I’ve been there.”

7. Raised

I fell in love with this destination on the 3rd floor of the Renaissance Hotel. I think I may have been surprised by the view considering its location and level, but it surprisingly did not disappoint. With its circular architecture and bar placed in the center of the rooftop, even while sitting at the bar, your view is pleasing to the eye. Give it a try and report back with some Instagrammable moments to match.

8. The Up Room

Talk about sophistication. The Robey Hotel is in Wicker Park placed on the historic “six corners” intersection. The rooftop is a boutique-like experience on the 13th floor with a pool on one side, and views on both. I love the perspective provided as you look across the city of Chicago from the Northside. The views are vastly different, and you seem to have a greater understanding of the scale of the city while sipping on specialty cocktails. Slide on into the indoor portion and enjoy the refined environment.

9. Whiskey Business

Catch a vibe here. Whiskey Business is in the Wicker Park neighborhood too. When you need a good activity, combined with good tasting bar food and drinks – hit up Whiskey Business. The team here is so creative in making this rooftop all-season friendly. They offer movie nights, tiki-themed events, individual pools to soak in, bocce ball, igloos, curling and so much more! I highly recommend hopping on in and trying a number of whiskeys, or even a tequila (my favorite) beverage. They have a decent selection of both.

10. Roof on The Wit

As one of the first rooftop bars to garner local and national attention, Roof on The Wit set the trend. Having been newly renovated within the past few years, Roof on The Wit is a great place when you want a rooftop experience, without having to be outdoors. Known to have some of the best fashion events, Roof on The Wit is worth making time for.

11.  Cindy’s Rooftop

I always tell everyone to go here! We discovered this prized destination years ago after heading out of the Art Institute of Chicago. I looked up and noticed plenty of people standing close to the edge, and told Logan, “We should go see what it is.” Our nosey selves ended up experiencing one of the best rooftop experiences in the city. The view encapsulates the essence of what you need to have a true Chicago experience. From skyscrapers to Millennium Park, Lake Michigan, and even some of the Southside of Chicago; what you get to see is truly unmatched. We absolutely love enjoying the hip, stylish atmosphere while sipping on an array of select craft cocktails. You will adore the view, the seasonal fare, and the service. Get to it!

Added Bonus Restaurant: Mercadito Chicago River North – When my honey bunches of oats, AKA my husband, Logan, took me out on our first date, he asked me what my favorite food was. A sista told him Mexican, and he ended up taking me to my now favorite Mexican restaurant in Chicago. The food was incredibly tasty, so much so, I ate my food so fast, I wanted to cross over to his plate to cop some of what he had. I prevented myself though, but only that one night. It was just our second date! All I remember were the lobster tacos, the hunger I barely quenched because I starved myself waiting for the yummy food, the refreshing watermelon margaritas, and an ambiance that is hip, quaint, but active enough for a first date impression. Cheers!

Evenings out seem to be more special than ever these days. So having plenty of options to fill your romantic itinerary is needed even more. Thankfully, Chicago is known to not disappoint. With each suggested locale keeping an eye on the city’s COVID climate and planning accordingly—this all means all you and your date have to do is dress up, show up, and chow down (and, ideally, really dig each other).

There are first dates, second dates, as well as third dates, and so on they go! You may get to a point where you stop counting because all you do is nom nom-together. Anywho, kudos to you for making it this far.

I think no matter who you are talking to, the word ‘date night’ may mean different things, but I think we can all agree, and in unison say, a good meal is essential.

Here are our best restaurants in Chicago.

10 Best Date Night Restaurants In Chicago

A few things make for a good restaurant date destination. When you have dim lighting, cozy booths, a great patio, and perhaps a dish to share for two, life is good. Most importantly, a good date spot should provide a memorable experience, which includes excellent food, impressive beverages, and exceptional service.

If you’re looking for a casual evening of quiet conversation or a show-stopping display of culinary wooing, Chicago has plenty of options of where to go on your next date. Whether it’s a first date or a decades-long anniversary, you can’t go wrong with any of these restaurants in Chicago for impressive eats, solid drinks, and intimate vibes;

Boka, Lincoln Park;

Diners are drawn to this Lincoln Park destination with its dreamy artwork, a lush living wall, and mood lighting, which is the first in the ever-expanding Boka Restaurant Group portfolio. Then there’s the food, lots of which you can try, evidenced by dishes like Kampachi Crudo, Grilled Spanish Octopus, and the date-night pinnacle: Whole Roasted Dry Aged Duck for two.

Monteverde;

In love and love Italian food? You’re in luck. You can always count on Monteverde for excellent Italian food in a bustling atmosphere. Their pasta is among the best, so plan your meal around them. If you want to add some protein to the mix, order the ragu Alla Napoletana, which can only be described as ridiculous (involving pasta, sausage, soppressata meatballs, and a large braised pork shank). You and your date are like two meatballs in a pod, having an amazing time in this Chicago restaurant.

Ada Street;

Off-the-beaten-path, secluded, no-frills, plenty of moody candlelight, Ada Street has the perfect recipe for a romantic evening in Chicago. Tender lamb ribs with crispy garlic and fluffy brioche doughnuts for dessert make this a neighborhood gem with sexy undertones. Make an even better evening of it by seeing a show near The Hideout, a great outdoor restaurant in Chicago.

Dining experience: Dinner is waiting at the end of a dimly lit corridor. The restaurant is small, with only a few dozen seats at two-tops and the bar. Don’t overlook the cocktails, whether you’re seated at the bar or not. The restaurant opens its garage-style door to an enclosed backyard in the summer, though it is being renovated.

Alla Vita;

The newest jewel in the BOKA Group’s (BOKA, Girl & the Goat, Momotaro) crown is a West Loop Italian masterpiece. It has created a shareable menu. You can be dressed up or dressed down to suit your mood here—looking to make a splash? Order the Kampachi crudo and tagliolini with Alba white truffle. Keeping it simple? For that, there’s a pizza.

Dining experience: Getting a table at Alla Vita can be more difficult than getting a quick burger at Au Cheval due to its popularity. Diners have been known to queue on the sidewalk before the restaurant opens to get a seat at the bar.

Make a reservation early to enjoy the luxury of the plush dining room, which features a ceiling covered in elegant waves of fabric and wooden archways adorned with plants.

Sepia, West Loop;

Allow yourself to be swept away by the romance of this former 1890s print shop that has been renovated in an Art Nouveau style (complete with custom tiling and hand-crafted millwork). Travel back in time with a round of classically inspired cocktails served in vintage glassware at the bar.

Then explore chef Andrew Zimmerman’s menu, a collection of carefully composed plates with plenty of French twists. Berkshire pork confit with cherry mostarda and country-fried truffle chicken with chanterelles standouts. If you and yours are old at heart (not literally lol) this would be a perfect date night in Chicago.

Roka Akor, River North, Oak Brook, and Old Orchard;

Sharing sushi is just easier—and it only gets better when the sushi is famously good. Find it at this tri-location restaurant, which serves rolls like Crispy Spicy Tuna and Dynamite Scallop alongside larger entrees like prime-cut steaks and Yuzu Miso Marinated Black Cod. Opt for the multi-course omakase for a splurge, and whatever you do, don’t miss the Ube Pot De Crème, a lush finale of smooth custard made with the strikingly purple Filipino yam that screams Instagram gold.

Avec, West Loop;

In any relationship, spontaneity is always a good thing. And, because Avec does not accept dinner reservations, not having any plans is the best kind of plan. The minimal, sleek wood design of Avec makes it a cool place to hang out, and the food is always delicious. Never miss out on their focaccia or chorizo-stuffed bacon-wrapped dates.

Campagne Bistro, Lincoln Square;

Have you had to postpone your romantic Parisian getaway this summer? Tout baigne—head to this Lincoln Park hidden gem to recreate the magic with all the trimmings of a traditional French restaurant. How about a patio full of appropriately placed greenery and glistening fairy lights? Check! What about a hefty cheese plate that starts with violet mustard, house pickles, fruit preserves, candied pecans, pink peppercorn honey, and grilled sourdough? Check!

Everything is designed to make your date awesome and give you the feels of a French setting. So why not!

Brindille;

Fancy and French almost always go hand in hand, but Brindille’s elegant and sophisticated dining room elevates upscale French to a new level. Carrie Nahabedian, a James Beard Award-winning chef, serves an array of classics, from Dover Sole meunière to lacquered aged duck breast, alongside a wine list that spans all of France. The hardest decision you’ll have to make all night is whether to start with oysters or caviar. But since it’s a romantic occasion, why not do both?

Dining experience: To allow for more space between diners, the restaurant has reduced the number of tables. That means you’ll have an even more unique dining experience, complete with a white tablecloth and superior service. Brindille also hosts afternoon tea regularly, with a selection of pastries, finger sandwiches, and specially priced Champagnes, ideal for a fun daytime date.

Rose Mary, West Loop;

If this restaurant could hoist itself from its foundation and wander around Chicago, it would be pursued by hordes of paparazzi and desperate people looking for a seat at the bar. The combination of being in the West Loop and having a Top Chef winner in the kitchen generated a level of hype that was well-deserved. It also made this list because of Couple Experience’s Founder, Tamika. She loves the place, so that should count for something.

The fact that Rose Mary’s food is delicious, or that everything, from the excellent service to the thoughtful course selection, contributes to a memorable dining experience for you and yours are just a few reasons this wonder of a place made it on this list!  Visit, unwind, and enjoy an unforgettable date night. It’ll be difficult not to.

The Duck Inn;

If you’re looking for a fun date night in Bridgeport, look no further than The Duck Inn. With a playful mix of bar fare and gourmet offerings, Chef Kevin Hickey’s tribute to his hometown captures the charm of this historic neighborhood. In the former home of a 100-year-old pre-prohibition tavern, dine on fried cheese curds and cider-braised pork belly.

Dining experience: You can create your own romantic adventure at this popular restaurant and bar. Choose a more relaxed evening of duck wings and local beer in the lounge, or reserve a table in the dining room, where exposed brick and candlelight set the stage for a romantic evening of roasted duck paired with a bottle of wine.

Well, there you are! We hope this list of restaurants makes it on your itinerary. There’s so much to explore for you and yours in the great windy city of Chicago. We request you do nothing more than have a splendid time, and oh! Feel free to reference this list anytime.

Cheers!

Dating…

A form of romantic courtship, and time you want to be perfect in every possible way for both you and your partner. A couple always needs some dating time for themselves away from family, careers, and overbearing tasks of daily life. To make that happen most need the comfiest location with some yummy food and drinks to fill up your tummy coupled with a touch of soft music, it’ll be like a dream come true. A break from your chaotic days. For both day and night dates, there are so many places to visit for some adventurous quality time together in the wondrous city of Chicago.

These days, let’s admit, most of us need designated date nights because it can be difficult to make the time to truly be together. Just to be clear, a date doesn’t have to be lavish. Sure, a date can include a five-course fancy meal in a Michelin-rated restaurant, or it can be a free tour of a public gallery, and for those days you want to stay in, there are some great home date night ideas to pull from too. Either way, the great part is, Chicago has plenty of offerings for entertainment, romance, and ease to connect to your date! We say, give kayaking along the river a try, or a free outdoor public concert if your partner is into music, but most importantly be eager to try something new.

Best Date Night Ideas in Chicago

Citizens or visitors of Chicago,  check out this proposed list of options if you are looking for a great first date place, or if you are in need of a creative place to take your significant other for some much-needed couples quality time.

AIRE Ancient Bath

AIRE is one of the best things in Chicago for couples to experience utter bliss for hours. This ancient spa ritual experience is placed in an old temple to get the vibes of history while the dead silence makes space for you to relax. It is the romance of AIRE that is sure to create the allure of love, sexiness, and reconnection.

AIRE is only available in 6 places all over the world and Chicago is one of them. In AIRE, you’ll encounter tranquility with superb lighting and calm with your love by your side.  Share and bask in both the baths and pools of different temperatures, and before going in you and your partner will strip down to swimsuits. Together, you’ll get the peace of floating side by side in the salt pool.

Explore the add-on options of massages, the Wine Bath, or a Himalayan salt scrub. Just know, this is the perfect date place for winter to warm you up in more ways than one.

Kayak Along the River

Kayaking along the river in Chicago is a tradition and an enjoyable summer experience to do with your beau. You will explore the historic city skylines from a different perspective as you take your time to nimbly coast down the river. When you reach your endpoint, hop off your kayak, appreciate the moment, and pick an ideal place to enjoy your meal and a splendid glass of wine.

Cooking classes

Devoting yourself to doing something different that requires some devotion on both parts is always a safe option to get to know one another better. Cooking classes offer you an opportunity to work together as a couple, and is an exciting way to engage with your partner more thoroughly. Learning something together could be a stimulating time, especially when it comes to food –  who doesn’t like to eat? Do a quick Google search for locations offering cooking classes in Chicago with a variety of cuisines. You can also try joining an Airbnb experience. My partner and I joined a pasta-making class in which we had so much fun while learning how to make some yummy pasta. Bon Appetit!

A Helicopter Tour

Surprise your date by going all out with an adventurous helicopter ride over the city. A helicopter tour over the city of Chicago at night will make for a romantic evening. The beauty and chaos of the Chicago lights and skyline are hard to match!  Daytime tours are available too. Seize the moment to take in panoramic views of  Lake Michigan, Millenium Park, Lincoln Park, and Grant Park. So, what are you waiting for? Get to reserving your tour.

Escape Room

These rooms live up to their name. You and your partner will be locked up together alone, or in a larger group. The point is to get released by solving clues and puzzles. Test your knowledge and clever demeanor with the challenge of an escape room. The pressure is on. Some rooms are timed, while others are not. Are you ready to show up your partner, or are you ready to work together with a common goal to get out of the room! Do a search, pick a nearby location, and pay attention to the themes that you may or may not be interested in. Good luck!

Picnic

A picnic in a park can never go wrong. It is the easiest, and most cost-friendly reasonable date to spend time together. With a basket of snacks and food paired with wine or even champagne, under an intimate tree spot, and on a beautiful day, you can have the solid quality time you need with your partner. With Chicago having plenty of beautiful park options to choose from for a picnic, one of the most popular spots is the Art institute South Garden which is semi-secluded in the loop.

Join Fitness Classes

In Chicago, fitness classes are surely trendy these days. With so many different choices from Crossfit, swimming, yoga, boxing, aerobics, and the list goes on. The route of enjoying staying fit together will build a healthy foundation for you and your date. Pick your fitness poison, and get to lifting. Or swimming. Or whatever else you choose!

Make it a point to try something fresh, like rock climbing. This activity helps to maintain your fit physique while also offering up a way for you and your partner to show support when needed during climbing. You can even try cycling along the park trail or jogging along the wonderful Lake Michigan, with the Chicago skyline views as an added backdrop.

If you prefer fancy dates, and lavish outings, discover the many helicopter-like experiences with a side of an eccentric 5-star rated restaurant that Chicago is known for. For the type of person more like me who wants to spend some unimaginable yet romantic time with a partner, a picnic at the park or a free tour at a museum would be perfect in which you can have a simple adventure filled with some fun. Don’t forget spots like Emporium or even Dave and Busters to step into your competitive gaming side. I also love a good game of tennis, Topgolf, ax throwing, or a cool date night paint night. The fact is, Chicago has so much to offer in the date night department, but it’s all about doing what fits your personality best.

Always remember, dating should be fun, adventurous, and unforgettable no matter if it is an opulent date or not.

Cheers to sharing consistent best date experiences you can muster!
