Most times Logan wants to explore. He is the history buff in the relationship. He enjoys navigating the area to learn and enmesh himself in the food, wine, art, and ocean water only (no lakes), which is his preference. Albeit, I am nowhere against any of those amazing things, I love to have plenty of time to relax with a book, a cup of coffee, or a glass of wine, with a view! We have been to a good amount of places, but one of our absolute favorites is Donostia, San Sebastian in Spain’s Basque Country because it offers all of the above, and so much more!

1. Not Too Many Tourists
When a city still has the elegance of its locals, there is a certain type of appeal that is irreplaceable. Not too many Americans have added this destination to their list, just yet. I’m sure you are asking why not? Well, San Sebastian is a bit off the beaten path. It is not necessarily the easiest place to get to, and it hasn’t been featured much on so many well-known social media platforms – like Instagram. You know what happens, once a destination becomes popular “on the gram.”
2. The Food Is Amazing!
The entire country of Spain is known for its cuisine so if ever desiring a place to devour some plates, pick Spain! If you want to test your foodie card, go to San Sebastian. With San Sebastian being the hub for a great creation of food bites called pintxos, the experience of delving into this world was a shock for us initially, but once we got the hang of it – it didn’t take long before we were basking in it all. Just imagine, your favorite restaurants all being next door to one another. Each one has your favorite meals featured in one bite, displayed upon a bar for you to select, then you can purchase a combination plate for a low price! It’s like 31 flavors of food, but in every restaurant, all day long – this is the pintxos life!
Pintxos are a great culinary creation meant for those wanting to experience sample-like portions with the punch of the best flavors you have ever had, surrounded by kind people, history, and wine galore!
*Couples Experience Tip: Try the delicacy of barnacles while visiting. They definitely look interesting, but they are tasty nonetheless.
3. Unmatched Beauty Is – San Sebastian
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, right? In San Sebastian, you will have no choice, but to bask in the amazing glory of the Basque Country. We surely became one with the beauty surrounding us. It was gloriously romantic to hear the sounds of the ocean waves from our apartment window. We would sit on the balcony for hours, connecting and talking about life with an impeccable view of mountains, and perfectly tinted bluish-green water just steps in front of us. Donostia, San Sebastian, Spain certainly falls into to category of Love Makes The Experience. No doubt about it, we just scratched the surface in this article, but know, this place is a true hub for the greatness in the world.
Lisbon, Portugal was another special place we have visited, that we absolutely adored. It was full of wonderful culture, great food, and beauty.
